Optimization for park rangers:

There are several directions in which science and engineering are using mathematics and computation to solve problems in sustainability. This talk will discuss Green Security Games, a branch that studies how to make patrolling suggestions to rangers to increase the frequency with which they thwart environmental crimes in the reserves they protect. In addition to an introduction to this, the theoretical and computational advances that this team has had with the implementation of these ideas (and some new ones) to a nature reserve in the Ecuadorian Chocó (Jamacoaque Ecological Reserve) will be shown.
