The analysis examines the structure of production in the Colombian economy through production networks built from administrative data. Sales, purchases, and inter-firm relationship records are used to map connections within the productive system and assess their impact on economic dynamics. To ensure data quality, extensive validation processes are conducted to guarantee consistency and reliability for analysis. A key focus is on studying network connections, identifying the effects of external shocks on commercial relationships and the stability of the productive system. The analysis highlights the importance of the intensive margin, i.e., the role of inter-firm connections in market resilience. The study also explores the differences between direct and indirect exporters, analyzing how their network interactions influence trade and international competitiveness. The findings offer insights for economic policy, showing how external shocks can alter the country’s productive structure and impact economic growth. Additionally, the presentation showcases computational tools developed to enhance large-scale production network analysis, opening new avenues for future research on the evolution and adaptation of the Colombian economic system.
