Multidimensional poverty measurement:

Focused on individual deprivation and preferences for Colombia

This paper measures multidimensional poverty in Colombia based on a measurement rule that takes into account individual deprivations and preferences. Poor individuals are identified through two steps: In the first step, individuals' deprivations are identified and in the second step these deprivations are aggregated using weights that are calculated based on individuals' preferences. The paper finds important differences in deprivation weights between different population groups. Additionally, it shows the differences in the contribution of deprivations on the incidence of multidimensional poverty for different age and economic activity groups.
